  SUMMER LITERACY INSTITUTE  

CLEAR holds an annual three-day summer literacy institute that features educational consultants, speakers, and authors who share stimulating theoretical and highly practical information concerning  literacy practices in K-6 classrooms. Institutes have focused on the goals of providing a literacy rich environment for all students supporting reading progress and developing writers through powerful and strategic teaching. CLEAR Summer Literacy Institutes have been pleased to present a variety of well-known educators and literacy advocates as keynote speakers, including Richard Allington, Carol Avery, Debbie Diller, Ralph Fletcher, Irene Fountas, Lance Gentile, Mary Ellen Giacobbe, Stephanie Harvey, Peter Johnston, Ellin Oliver Keene, Gay Su Pinnell, Cris Tovani, and Susan Zimmermann.

Making Connections:

Developing Readers, Writers, and Poets in Grades K-6

Institute topics:

  • Going beyond guided reading utilizing reading workshops
  • Using day-to-day observational assessment to develop instruction for the reading workshop
  • Working with struggling readers
  • Conferring with writers
  • Information sessions with children's book authors
  • Engaging students with poetry and poetry performance

Registration fees:

$350 before June 15th; $375 after June 15th

Includes one parking permit per person for the three days and continental breakfast each day.

Exhibitors:

A variety of exhibitors will be present during the institute. Do you have a favorite vendor/publisher? If so, please send us your suggestions via email.

 

Optional Graduate Credit :

Participants may elect to receive three optional Purdue University graduate credits upon satisfactory completion of, and full participation in the institute. Tuition is $832.65 and is above and beyond the registration fee.

 

How to register:

To register for our Summer Literacy Institute, you have the following options:

  • Download, print, complete, and fax or mail registration form to Continuing Education with your payment or purchase order.
  • Contact our office via email or call us at (765) 494-9750 with your request to fax you a copy of the registration form.
  • Visit the Continuing Education website to access the interactive registration form. This feature will allow you to enter all required registration information and simply print the completed form to be faxed or mailed to the Continuing Education office. (Link will be available soon!)
