Spring 2010:
Analyzing Children's Strategies for Improved Instructional Decisions
In this series, participants will learn how to analyze running records or other evidence of children’s strategic processing in reading to determine what the children know how to do and what they need to learn how to do next. This type of observation and interpretation of processing will help teachers make on target decisions about how to accelerate children’s learning. Teachers will feel more powerful and successful as they see children take on strategies for problem solving, monitoring, self-correcting and moving up text levels. This is very helpful for teachers who work with children who are struggling to learn, but is also helpful for teaching children who are emerging as readers.
